Night out in the ER!

A couple of days ago I got in a little wrestling match with my roommate, and was thrown up against a wall quite hard. That night I was awoken by a sharp pain in my chest anytime I inhaled. I didn’t think anything of it, but the pain continued all day yesterday. Last night it got so bad that I was forced to drive to the emergency room.

The emergency room is a pretty hilarious place from the hours of midnight to 4am. There are so many patients who make you feel a lot better about yourself and the direction your life is going, such as the man being escorted in handcuffs by a police officer or the kid with alcohol poisoning puking his brains out all night. I definitely came out of the experience feeling good about myself.

Luckily, everything wound up fine; no broken rib, punctured lung, or heart attack.

I did have an amusing interaction with a yuppy medical school student who interviewed me about the chest problem. He had to ask me background questions, one of which was recent alcohol intake…

How many alcoholic beverages have you consumed in the past week?

Well, I don’t drink during the week, but it was quite a bit during the weekend.

That’s ok man. Hell, I’ve been to college.

Probably 30 to 35 drinks over the course of the weekend.

(Raising his eyebrows) 30 to 35 DRINKS?!

Er…I guess…maybe 25 to 30?

How long do you think you can keep having weekends like that?

Well, it’s been about 5 weekends straight so far.

(At this point he just shook his head with a blank face, having little else to say)

Chuckblog loves you more than the ER at 4am! I’ve still got my “Bars that Suck” post coming up soon…check back for it!
